The 100th anniversary of the birth of Yeghishe Charents is being celebrated with great pomp at the initiative of the Department of Armenian Language and Literature. A literary-musical matinee is taking place in the hall of the Armenian House of Malatia. The author of the screenplay and the director is Tamar Aleksanyan, head of the Department of Armenian Language and Literature.

The 1996-1997 National Chemistry Olympiad is organized and held at the Lyceum.

In May 1997, from the 4th to the 10th, the 31st International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad is organized and held in Armenia at the Tsaghkadzor House of Writers, thanks to the initiative and efforts of the Lyceum.

In the spring of 1997, in the Republican Olympiad of the Russian language, the students of the Lyceum recorded an absolute victory in terms of the number of prizes won (head of the Russian language department, Marina Sheinina).

The first admission in humanitarian sector is taking place.

By order of the RA Minister of Education, the Lyceum is reorganized into a scientific and ducational complex, and it is given the status of a state enterprise.
